September? Really?

So, it's September all of the sudden, which probably means I'm going to birth a child this month. And despite the months of months of lead up, that still strikes me as crazy at times. So, instead of thinking myself into a panicky mess about the responsibility of raising another human being, I'm creating a list of things I'm looking forward to when I'm no longer pregnant. (Also, lists are my best friend these days. I'm a list-making lunatic. Lists at work. Lists at home.)

1. Sleeping flat on my back. I kinda hate sleeping on my side, so I cheat and prop myself up with pillows and sleep half on my back. But I will be very grateful for when I don't have to feel guilty in the middle of the night when I wake up on my back. I don't even know if it matters that much, but everyone makes it sound like one of the most horrible things you can do to your unborn child.

2. Cold turkey sandwiches. You take these for granted until you start heating up every single piece of lunch meat you consume.

3. Beer. I was originally thinking I would save a pack of Oberon, because I've missed out on that all summer. But now I'm thinking I might just skip ahead to the Octoberfests. My plan is to drink one while watching a MSU football game, and I'm sure it will promptly make me want to fall asleep.

4. New jeans. I look forward to shopping in general (Forever 21, how I've missed you!), but I really, really am craving a new pair of jeans. I'm sure it'll take longer than I'd like for my ass to get back in shape, but once it does, I'm rewarding myself.

5. Sexy heels. I'm not much of a heel-wearer, and I'm sure my opportunities to wear shoes like these will diminish even further, but that doesn't stop me from wanting some. I keep seeing all these cute, sexy heels and platforms, and I want in, darn it! I've been wise enough to lay off and not tempt my unstable center of gravity these past many months, but now I'm starting to day dream about shoes. Other people do that, right?

6. My waist. I've missed you.

Hey Carrie,

Don't feel guilty about sleeping on your back while pregnant. They tell you not to do it for your protection, not the kid's. The weight of Baby Bissa resting on your descending aorta and/or inferior vena cava might cut off either the blood flow to your own legs (not good) or the venous return to your heart and, by extension, blood supply to your brain. You're fine on your back if you can feel your legs, and aren't feeling dizzy, short of breath, or nauseated.
